We know that handling screen addiction as a parent can be tough but we have good news to share. We met up with Sydney dad Matthew Ferro who solved his son’s screen addiction with Elanation. Find out here how he transformed his son’s behaviour for the benefit of the whole family.
As with many parents these days, Matthew thought a lot about how his child Dan is engaging with new digital technologies. “It’s a very distracting technological world. When you have two working parents it’s easy to let kids go online,” he said.
“Sometimes they’re playing games and are a bit active, but most of the times they’re just staring at a small screen either playing games, watching YouTube or gamers on there.”
When he noticed that behaviour emerging with Dan, he decided he wanted to nip it in the bud. Aware that zero exposure to digital technology was no real answer either, he was full of hope when he came across Elanation.
“The Elanation ETURBO Smartwatch has given Dan a reason to get up and move. Having the wearable on him at all times means that he’s always checking how many steps he’s taken and he’s encouraged to take another.”
The sports watch has proven to be motivating and challenging at the same time. “He compares the steps with others and goes like ‘Oh my god, I only need a 1000 more steps to go up on that next level’,” Matthew explained.
He is also convinced that Dan won’t stop wearing the Elanation ETURBO Smartwatch so quickly now that he’s excited.
“I’ve observed that once he starts moving, it becomes easier and easier every time. He pushes a little better and higher without us having to constantly push him, which is just great.”
Matthew is excited that Dan is more energetic and active than ever, but he also values other noticeable shifts.
“Since Dan has started using the Elanation ETURBO Smartwatch, we’ve observed such a positive change overall. He’s just happier all around when he’s not online. He gets up moving to engage with the real world again. The results really snowball.”
Unsurprisingly, one of Matthew’s favourite Elanation moment so far doesn’t involve a new high score or dance move. Instead, it happened during a heated situation on the mini-golf course.
“Dan can get a hot temper when he loses or does badly at a game. I warned him he was about to lose electronics for the rest of the trip. Suddenly, he went into mindfulness mode, did the breathing exercises and remained calm through the rest of the time. Amazing!”
“I never would have imagined that a piece of technology could help to improve my son’s problems with technology. That’s what’s really great about Elanation; we still have devices in our household but Dan is using them in a more balanced and beneficial way than ever before. I can only recommend this to any parent out there looking for an enduring solution to end their kids’ screen addiction.”
